International Education Week
November 13-17
International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the University of Arkansas' efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. The theme of the University of Arkansas' International Education Week is "You Are Welcome Here." Students are encouraged to share their international education stories on social media using #IEWelcomeUARK. For more information about this year’s IEW events, visit iew.uark.edu.

International Dress Day & International Bazaar, Monday, November 13
Arkansas Union International Connections Lounge, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Students, faculty and staff are invited to wear their favorite international clothing, sports jersey, hat, scarf or other item for this all-day event. Kim Needy, Dean of the Graduate School and International Education will open the University of Arkansas' International Education Week, followed by a group picture of the U of A community in traditional dress. The International Bazaar will contribute to inclusion and diversity on campus though cultural table presentations and performances by international students.

Winners of the 2017 Study Abroad Photo Contest will be announced and displayed during the International Bazaar.

Friendsgiving Forum, Thursday, November 16
Reynolds Auditorium, 5:30 – 7:30
This forum, sponsored by Fulbright Scholars at the University of Arkansas, will provide students with the opportunity to discuss challenges, experiences and the impact of international exchange. The discussion will emphasize the importance of creating a mutual understanding between different cultures through the cultivation of peaceful, respectful dialogue. The forum discussion will not only provide students with a clear vision of what international exchange entails by presenting descriptions of real-life experiences, but it will also generate an interest in domestic students about how to take part in international exchange and make the most of cultural diversity both as members of the host institution at the University of Arkansas and as prospective participants in the Fulbright program overseas. International students are invited to participate in a program that connects them with American hosts for Thanksgiving Dinner celebrated on November 23. This program gives our international community the opportunity to celebrate the Thanksgiving meal with local families. Host families will provide food and transportation. Medical Humanities RSO Event: Global Health is Local Health, Wednesday, November 15
CHEM 144, 4:00 pm
Dr. Nickolas Zaller, the Director of Global Health at UAMS, and former Fulbright scholar, spent a year on a Fulbright grant conducting research in China. Dr. Zaller will be speaking at the first Medical Humanities ROS event of the semester on the Importance of Global Health Thinking in Arkansas.

Hogs Abroad 101 Sessions

Note: there will be no Hogs Abroad 101 Session on Wednesday, November 22 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Learn the study abroad basics – program types, locations, housing options, scholarships, etc. – through these peer-led info sessions. These take place weekly from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the semester. Space is limited to the first 25 students each week, so get there early!

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for Summer 2018
Application Deadline: November 15 at 7:59pm EST
Sponsored by the U.S. State Department, The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program aims to expand the number of Americans studying critical languages. CLS places value on the ability to tie increased language proficiency to a student’s career.

Fund for Education Abroad for 2018-2019
Application opens: November 15

The mission of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the US study abroad population. FEA makes life-changing, international experiences accessible to all by supporting minority, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs. University of Arkansas Study Abroad Scholarships on the Hogs Abroad Portal
Several study abroad scholarships now have their own applications on the Hogs Abroad Portal, so you can manage more of your scholarship applications in one place. Be sure to carefully review deadlines and eligibility criteria for each scholarship at http://studyabroad.uark.edu/funding. If you have any questions about one of these scholarships, refer to the contact information listed on the brochure.
The African American Studies Program Study Abroad Grant is now available on the Hogs Abroad Portal
The priority deadline the Sam Walton College of Business Study abroad Scholarship for Summer programs is December 1.

To Do
Apply for Your Passport
If you haven’t already done so, now is a great time to locate your birth certificate and submit a passport application. You can find instructions on how to apply using the following link: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html.
You can also visit U of A Passport Services at pmcs.uark.edu/passport-services/.
And, once you have your passport, be sure to log in to your Hogs Abroad Portal to upload your passport information to your application!
