Great Value Colleges has named the University of Arkansas study abroad programs the fourth best in the nation. The ranking was based on multiple factors, most notably, the affordability of programs and the variety of programs available.

The U of A offers a multitude of study abroad options, including faculty-led programs, exchange programs, research programs, internships, independent study and study at the U of A Rome Center. The U of A also has many scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing education abroad.

The number of U of A students making study abroad part of their curriculum continues to grow. During the 2015-16 academic year, a record number of students participated in education abroad opportunities. More than 1,000 students went abroad and visited nearly 50 countries.

The trend of growth is expected to continue, and is already being felt at the Rome Center. A record-high 107 U of A students are spending the summer at the university's Italian campus.

"We are delighted to see the continued growth in study abroad," said DeDe Long, director of the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange. "Study abroad is not only beneficial to our students, who are broadening their cultural competencies, but is also beneficial to the state of Arkansas. When U of A students go abroad, they increase the international footprint of our state, and the global experiences they bring back with them add value to the Arkansas economy."
