Meet One of Our New Peer Advisors: Andrew Bartels! #HogsAbroad

Morocco. The turban was great at keeping out the sand

Hello All! I am Andrew Bartels, a senior and Spanish major.  I studied abroad the entire 2015-2016 academic year in Malaga, a city on Spain’s southern coast.  I took classes at the Universidad de Malaga with local students on Spanish philology, art, and history.

Studying abroad was an edifying experience wherein I learned a lot academically and personally.  My Spanish improved dramatically, which is a boon given my major.  Additionally, I learned more Spanish history and geography, and came to see how these have been incorporated into the contemporary Spanish mind.

I did a fair bit of traveling outside of Malaga.  I saw a number of cities in Spain and made it to classic destinations in Europe like London, Paris, Brussels and Budapest.  Additionally, I took trips to Morocco and Russia.

My job as a peer advisor encompasses several duties inside and outside the office.  My student colleagues and I are responsible for meeting with other students who are thinking about studying abroad, helping make study abroad promotional media, and generally getting the UA community excited about living and learning in a foreign country!
