Snapshots from the #hogsabroad Health Teams in Sweden program

Hunter Waddell shared some of his photos from his time on the Health Teams Abroad in Sweden summer program:

This is the ruin of a Swedish Castle on an Island outside of Jonkoping, Sweden. The Russian prisoner helped in some construction in the 1500’s. I got to walk through the ruins and go down by the water on the other side; it was an amazing experience.

This shop was in Grana just before we went to the Island. We got to watch him make the candy canes from scratch. It was a very interesting process to watch, we all bought some hand made candy canes to take home to our friends and family.

We took a day trip to Gothenburg, Sweden. It’s the second largest city in Sweden, behind Stockholm. We walked all over town, this was in front of the Poseidon sculpture just before we entered the museum of art.

This is the first photo I took in Gothenburg. Looking out at the city just outside of the train station that we got off from. The canals and bridges connecting streets are very common in Gothenburg and other Swedish cities.

This was my first day in Jonkoping. It’s looking out at the city center. We walked past this point everyday to get to many restaurants and to school. It was a beautiful setting to get to look at for two weeks.

This was our first day of class in Jonkoping. The S.U.S.H.I’s took us on a tour around campus, and we got to go to the roof and look out over the entire city. It was a little foggy and rainy on this day, which is typical Sweden weather. But luckily most of our stay in Jonkoping was pretty.

This is in Jonkoping Sweden. We were walking around and ate at a place that was on the pier. We went to the end of the pier and looked out at the entire lake, it was a great view to end the day.

This was a photo I took on the way to Stockholm on the bus ride. It’s a pretty typical rural depiction of Sweden. There are beautiful fields that seem to go on forever. This flower is actually used in a lot of their industry.

This was one of my meals in Sweden. They love to have potatoes be a part of every meal, and they are very creative of how they display them. The steak was amazing. This restaurant was in a cellar, with stone all around us. It had a very old feel to it and was cool to have dinner in.

This was the market day’s celebration in Jonkoping, Sweden. It was available all weekend. There were a lot of tents set up with things marked off for a good price. There were also these rides and carnival type activities for kids and other people to take part in. It was a very fun time for our last weekend.
