The process of doing study abroad was pretty long and
meticulous, but hopefully it will be worth it. I had to get my visa from the
Austrian Embassy in Washington and to do that, I needed a whole bunch of papers
proving that I am a student among other things. When I sent in my visa, I was
scared that it was going to get rejected, but I got it about 3 weeks later.
Thats when it hit me. I really am going to Austria. This is actually happening.
I still can't completely believe it and probably wont until I'm half way over
the Atlantic Ocean.
I have been trying to figure
out what I should bring with me since I'll be spending so much time there, but
honestly I won't have any idea until I actually get there. If there is one
thing I bought that should turn out to be handy, it is my 20” suitcase. I
didn't know that there was a standard suitcase size difference for carry ons
until I started looking into it, but my 20” is going to be great for traveling
on the trains. I plan to be traveling every single weekend while I am abroad
and having a small suitcase that won't load me up is a smart idea.
I signed up for a mentor
program through the University that I am doing the exchange with. The girl that
was assigned to me speaks fluent English and seems very nice. She has given me
lots of tips and advice for the coming month. I have had this summer off, so my
German has declined, but I'm sure that within 2 weeks, I will have it up to
what it use to be in May! I'm super excited for what the future holds and how
my language skills will improve!
