Trying to Get To Madrid....

Hola! My name is Larin McMartin. I am a pre-medical student with majors in Biology and Spanish. I will be spending the month of June studying Spanish in Madrid, Spain.

Well, my travels are off to an interesting start! I am supposed to fly out of the Oklahoma City airport this morning but thanks to the severe weather we had all day yesterday, more than 100,000 customers are without power, including the airport. So, instead, my dad will be driving me to Dallas to catch my flight to Madrid. I am interested to see the kind of flooding and damage around the Oklahoma City area do to the storms; it will probably be a long drive because of it. But a little weather is not going to stop me! I will get to Madrid by any means necessary because I have been looking forward to this for months.

I've spent the past weeks preparing for my next month abroad, to the best of my abilities; the most traveling I have ever before done is a Carnival cruise. I have been studying Spanish, researching the country, making copies of any information I may need, and shopping for adapters and money belts. I exchanged dollars for my first euros at the bank and packed what I hope is an extremely thorough suitcase.

I am eager to meet my host family tomorrow and I cannot wait to explore Spain and learn from it's people and their culture. It is sure to be an experience I will never forget!
