4AM Meteor Shower #HogsAbroad in Australia

At 4am a small group of dedicated students hiked out to Horseshoe Beach in Magnetic Island to view the Perseid meteor shower. This meteor shower is typically active for over a month in July and August but peaks for just 3 days out of that time. We were lucky enough to also be in the optimal location in Australia for viewing and near to an area with low light pollution. The experience was extraordinary due not only to some spectacular shooting stars but also because the southern sky differs greatly from the northern sky we are used to. Sitting on the sand, looking at the vast sky, with the waves crashing in the background, we experienced an unforgettable event.
