My Experience #HogsAbroad in Japan #FoodieFriday

Hello, my name is Brandon Kaylor. I am a Business Economics major and a Business Analytics minor, and I just went on the 2018 Japan Study Abroad Program with Dr. Stapp and nine other Walton College students. The experience was incredible both from a cultural and business aspect. We spent time in nine different cities, met with several businesses and their CEOs, COOs, and Presidents, visited tons of cultural sites, and ate a ton of delicious food. We traveled across the vast majority of Japan (western, Kansai, Kanto and Hokkaido), and got to live there for five whole weeks.

Some people might be hesitant to go, because the only Japanese foods they know about are noodles and sushi. I’m here to say there is nothing to be hesitant about because almost everything in Japan is delicious! Some of my favorite foods there included shabu shabu (look this up!), ramen, sashimi (similar to sushi but just the raw fish, and I had never eaten sushi before), tempura (delicious fried shrimp), karage (fried chicken), curry rice, and yakitori (a type of cooked chicken). Japan also has really awesome ice cream and fruits!

Japan is amazing, and everyone should definitely go at least once in their life, and JSAP is a one of a kind experience with Japan. And there’s no need to worry about food because Japan has a wide variety of crazy tasty food to eat!
