For our afternoon class, we went to the sim labs that the medical, dentistry, and nursing students use. They have a lot of the same technology that the nursing school has at the U of A, and we got to use the mannequins to learn CPR. Saying numbers in Spanish while you're trying to give compression and keep track of which cycle you’re on is not easy! After this, we went to the sim lab where Profesor Eduardo, taught us how to run a code (aka what to do when a heart stops beating). He was a great teacher and when we made a mistake (which was a lot: I started giving CPR while the mannequin was still breathing); he cracked a joke and taught us what to do. Eventually, a group of us took our shot at running the code and we actually were successful! For me, it was so much fun and good reassurance that I chose the right career with nursing.

After class, a group of us went to the Centro Angelopolis, aka the mall in Puebla. It is probably one of the nicest malls I’ve been to! Part of it was open roof, and had a restaurant, and as we walked around we found lots of great stores. We went shopping at Zara and of course I bought more clothes. After shopping, my host mom took me to the International Museum of Baroque Art. I love a good art museum, and with all the Baroque architecture and art in Puebla, it’s no surprise they have such a good museum.
We spent about an hour there, and my host mom told me all about the significance of different paintings, why it’s important to the city, etc. I was glad to have her with me, so I could better understand the art, and I always love hearing her stories! We went back home and had dinner with her daughter, and ate some dessert she made at the panaderia. We talked for about an hour and I learned more about the culture in Puebla. Today was jam-packed with things to do, but I learned a lot and got to see a lot!

My name is Lili and I am from Dallas, Texas! I’m an honors junior Nursing student and also minoring in Spanish. This summer, I’ll be studying in Puebla, Mexico in a service-learning health professions program. I’ll be living with a host family, taking Spanish classes for health professions, and also shadowing a doctor in one of the local hospitals. I’ll be writing about my experiences in the hospital, around Puebla, and on the different excursions my group is taking. I hope you follow along!
