Today we went to the beautiful Sky Garden of London which had the incredible view of the city. We then made our way towards Borough Market where we experienced many aromatic smells and ethnic cuisines. The Borough Market was really fun to go through and see not only so many beautiful places, but to also get local and diverse foods and see street performers and singers. I felt as if this was a market I would definitely be frequenting if I lived here (which I am really considering at this point in our travels). I decided to try a food I had never experienced before. I had Ethiopian cuisine from this lovely little market stand. The woman who served us was so kind and welcoming. I ordered the Chicken combo which included rice and two vegetarian sides. For my sides I ordered “Yekik Alicia” which is spiced split peas which were super delicious. I also ordered “gomen” which was spinach steamed with shallots, onions, and olive oil. This dish was not only flavorful but super fresh. The chicken was prepared in a large wok and was seasoned to perfection. The entire meal paired excellently and the boldness of the flavors combined for a truly mouthwatering adventure. I now have a new love for Ethiopian cuisine. I absolutely adored the communal vibe of the market and how many different ethnic food options were available. We then decided to try some of the desserts at the market. I bought a lovely little pastry called a “Paris Brest” which is an almond pastry filled with hazelnut cream. After eating lunch we began to hear a man singing on the guitar and playing a harmonica. I love open spaces that encourage performance and community to come together for a fun afternoon outing. I think Borough Market is doing some excellent things for the community of London in giving local businesses and cuisines the opportunity to provide experiences and interactions for all that visit the Borough Market area. I will definitely be returning to Borough Market again.
Here are some photos of Borough Market and the Sky Garden!
