This week was the last week of actual classes and the start of my two weeks of finals, so it was full of essays and goodbyes. Highlights of the week included a class dinner, final classes, model EU, and a kollegium final event.
Model EU
My final core course class consisted of a model European Union, in which we took all of the things that we had learned previously in the semester, and put them together into a four hour long mock-simulation (which we celebrated the end of with champagne)! We debated a White Paper called the Future of the EU, and tried to decide on a solution and specific policy areas on which to make resolutions. It was a fun way to wrap up the class while getting more of an insiders look into diplomacy, which helped us to really understand the difficulties that the EU has in creating policy with 28 different state interests.
Final Class and Core Course Dinner
This week was my last week of actual classes, and it is safe to say that goodbyes are so much weirder during study abroad. When you know that most of the people that you suffered through those Monday 8:30 AM’s with, you’re actually never going to see again, it’s bizarre. Keeping up with people after study abroad is hard, and realistically it just won’t happen with a lot of the people in class. This was especially sad for my core course. However, as a final hurrah, we all went out to dinner together at Madklubben (paid for by DIS woohoo). I got some amazing food, namely a goat cheese salad, barely risotto, and banana ice cream, but the best part of it was really getting to see each other for the last time. It is amazing to see the difference in the way our class dynamic changed between the first dinner and the last dinner. Everyone was switching around seats during the meal and talking to different groups of people, and it was evident that we really bonded as a class. Plus, almost half of the class will be in DC this summer, and I’m really excited to go into my internship already knowing people in the city.
Final Kollegium Event
Each month, the Kollegium holds an event funded by DIS, as a way to make sure everyone is hanging out between floors and between nationalities. For the last event, we had a big picnic on Islands Brygge, where we just snacked on pizza, blew bubbles and played traditional Danish lawn games. It was super relaxing to just lay outside and hang out with friends, and was a good way to say goodbye to a lot of people that I saw from time to time.
That’s all for this week (other than writing essays and lowkey stressing about finals). Next week is my final week in Copenhagen, so expect a sappy post or two. Hej hej for now.
