Our first day in London is finally here and I feel more excitement than nerves. Today we navigated the Tube system with our Oyster cards. I found it thrilling to be able to travel on the tube so easily, even though it was unfamiliar to me. We then visited Leicester Square and discovered many of the theatres where we will be viewing plays. I then travelled to get lunch at a place called “Nando’s” and had delicious chicken and rice. The system of using pounds will take some getting used to but I really enjoy learning how to use a new currency. The fast pace of London is really evident in the tube stations and in the streets. I think the fast pace here makes everything feel exciting and important. I also got to purchase a ticket to view the Phantom of the Opera tonight for only thirty five pounds. All around there are different foods and experiences to be had. I am noticing tiny cultural differences even though we share the same language. It is fascinating to be so far away from home and yet feel like one day I could live here. Day one feels like the start of an amazing journey. I am really looking forward to spending my first night viewing one of my favorite plays. It’s only the first day in this great city and I already feel myself falling in love with the architecture, the noise, and the abundance of theatre and art surrounding us. The best journeys often start by throwing yourself into the hustle of the locals. I think my time in London will not only be enriching academically, but teach me about myself in ways I can not even fathom yet. I can not wait to see how London changes me. But for now I’m off to the the theatre!
