This week has been slow, or slow relative to the fast-pace of life while studying abroad. Monday was essentially spent recovering from the exhaustion of a weekend in Berlin, and the rest of a week was spent studying for midterms (or laying in bed with my laptop open, pretending to study. The feelings of procrastination are so real). The highlights of the week are learning how to make chili, a really really cold spell, and walking on water!!
Veggie Chili!
It was Olivia and my turn to make floor dinner again, and so we decided to try to make vegetarian chili. Full disclaimer: neither of us had ever made chili before, and so we were kind of out of our league. We also definitely didn’t buy enough spices, and so we had to get creative (like substituting hot chocolate mix for cocoa). However, it surprisingly turned out really well, and was not hard at all to make. I’m learning how to cook more and more, which is not something I expected from this trip, but I am loving.
Arctic Tundra or Copenhagen?
This week was the coldest week we have had since being here, and it was low-key miserable. Every time I had to walk out of my Kollegium, I had to mentally prepare myself for the wind. The harbor even froze over! Apparently, all of Europe has been experiencing this cold-spell this week, but that doesn’t make it any more enjoyable. I’m already dreaming of warm(er) days in CPH.
Walking on Water
In the pursuit of a food truck festival (which ended up being four or five overpriced food trucks – so disappointing), my friends and I saw people sliding and walking across one of the harbors. Naturally, we had to hop off the bus and join in a bit for ourselves. Coming from AR, this is not something I had ever done, and it was really really cool. I will admit, I was slightly terrified the entire time that the ice would break through, but the locals weren’t concerned so I tried not to be.
Next week is core course week, meaning on Sunday I leave for a week-long trip to Brussels with my class. We are going to be touring EU institutions and meeting with people who work in EU politics, and I am so excited to see the reality of the things that we have been learning about. So, expect a full and long post next week! Hej Hej.
