After my week in Brussels, I jetted off to Stockholm for the weekend. Brussels was still in the 40’s but it felt like a tropical vacation in comparison to the cold of Stockholm. And, since I am in no way shape or form someone that can handle the cold well, it was a shock (even though it was barely worse than CPH – I should be used to it). Here are some of the highlights of the weekend!
Ice Bar
The number one thing I was excited to do coming to Stockholm, was the Ice Bar. Sitting with a huge warm parka on in a bar completely made out of ice was definitely a weird and unique experience, and the novelty of it made the whole thing really fun! Even the glasses were ice, and while my fingers definitely went numb, it was worth it. 10/10 would recommend!
Gamla Stan – The Old Town
Our hostel was conveniently located in the middle of the Old Town, undoubtedly the cutest part of Copenhagen. I loved getting to explore around the shops and bakeries in the area. The streets were cobblestoned and hilly, which was honestly a problem with all of the snow and ice – one of the girls who I traveled with fell down two times – thx mom for making sure I came to Europe with snow boots.
Veggie Meatballs
Luck was on my side this trip, as I traveled with another vegetarian and one non-vegetarian (so I was actually in the majority and didn’t have to feel bad about imposing dietary restrictions on restaurants)!! This meant that we ended up finding a place where we could try vegetarian meatballs, and woooow they were good! I love to really try the traditional culinary foods of the area, and so I was glad to be able to find a veggie version of the classic Swedish dish.
Overall, while I did like Stockholm, I don’t really see myself going out of my way to ever go back. To me, and I am admittedly biased with my love for CPH, it seemed like a bigger and dirtier Copenhagen. However, it was a really fun weekend, and I am still super glad I went! Hej då for now!
