Other than my living essentials (clothes, tooth brush, underwear, soap, etc.), my phone (of course, to take many photos) and books for study, what else am I taking? Well, because I am going to Osaka to learn more about the language, I will be taking a small notebook to write down phrases and unfamiliar words that I see during my travels, for example on street signs. At the end of each day, I’ll look up the word(s) or phrases and add them into a phone app I use to memorize, called memrise, and study from there. Memrise has been a blessing to help me expand my Japanese vocabulary. I highly recommend it! I started by adding the vocabulary from my language courses, and now I add every new word I learn. I will be departing on Tuesday September 5, local US Central time, and will arrive In Japan about 36 hours later, on Thursday September 7. So I recently bought a large backup battery for my phone: When the backup is fully charged, it can fully recharge the phone up to 4 times. If anyone is interested in buying one, I highly recommend it! This is the link where I bought it:

I’ll post my next blog sometime after I have moved into the dorm where I am staying In Osaka.
If anyone wants more tips for what you may need to pack, what you need to leave behind, how to make sure you don’t pack too much, and the whole pre-departure process, ask me in the comments below.
