This past weekend I traveled to Granada! We had put off all travel
plans such as where to stay and how to get there until last Tuesday (we
were leaving on Friday) but we somehow still got great deals on
everything. Eight of us rented the CUTEST Airbnb for the weekend which
was right in the heart of Granada. We arrived late that night and only
had time to go out to eat.
Granada is known for the Alhambra which is a royal palace overlooking
the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was built in the mid-13th century by
the Moors and later became the royal court for Ferdinand and Isabel
(where Christopher Columbus got the OK for his expedition in 1492).
After dinner the first night, we realized that we never purchased our
tickets to go to the Alhambra and began searching everywhere online how
to get last minute tickets. One blog suggested to arrive at the
Alhambra and wait in line until they open at 8:00. SO that’s what we
did!!! Two of my friends and I woke up at 5:00, took a taxi to the
Alhambra, met some new friends in line, and finally got tickets!
The 5 other girls in our group all decided to sleep in, but I’m so
glad I woke up early because it gave us a lot of time to walk around the
gardens before actually entering into the main palace. Overall, the
Alhambra is BEAUTIFUL and I’m so happy I woke up early to experience
it.
Later that night the three of us decided to find a Flamenco show
because everyone had told me how awesome it is to see in Granada. They
were not wrong!!! This show was the most intense and passionate
performance I’ve ever seen. I was also lucky enough to be in the 2nd
row! Such a great experience.
The Flamenco show also happened to be overlooking the entire city and
we were able to see the sun setting behind the mountains. Incredible.
The weekend flew by but I’m so excited to say that I saw Flamenco and
the Alhambra all in one day. This coming weekend, BARCELONA!
