Bangalore - Center of Space Research in India #HogsAbroad

We visit WIPRO today. WIPRO was located in an electronic city. There are six phases to an electronic city and electronic cities are very large. Phase 1 is the first part the be built, Phase 2 is second part to be built and so forth with Phase 6 being the last to be built. Electronic cities are meant to be a city within itself. There’s more police officers and traffics regulations in an electronic city.
Bangalore is the center of space research in India. It is also home to very large research facilities such as facilities for genetics, semiconductors, computers and chemicals. I hadn’t thought of Bangalore, yet India alone, in the context of this kind of advancement. India has not stopped surprising me since we arrived.

I didn’t have much knowledge of WIPRO before we had the company visit. I learned that WIPRO specializes in technological advances and ease of use through mobile phones. WIPRO is a big company, to say the least, with more than 200,000 employees and more than 100 locations around the world with a presence in over 67 countries. WIPRO stands for Western India Products and was one of the first computer manufacturers in the private sector.

WIPRO has many cool products out and is involved in some pretty interesting things. WIPRO is involved in facial recognition technology and the use of past purchases to predict future purchases based upon the life of a product. WIPRO also has WIPRO HOLMES which is essentially artificial intelligence with HOLMES standing for Heuristics and Ontology-based Learning Machines and Experiential Systems. The really neat thing about HOLMES is that it can communicate with you, it’s naturally interactive, autonomous, and it can deliver efficiency, experience, and effectiveness. It’s an interactive bot that can answer your questions. What’s even better is that the bot can be trained for specific purposes or fields. This was mind-blowing. I didn’t expect to see technological advances or ideas like this. I was very surprised to see some of the things that this company was doing and how big of a role they played in our daily online shopping patterns and ease of use and search.

We had another company visit to TCS; however, I wasn’t feeling well and was having a bad reaction to my Malarone. When I got back to the apartments, I slept for a few hours and felt much better. We had a very unique experience at our apartments that truly put the saying “anything goes” in a new context. The hotel employees ended up taking away our landline phone to put in an internet router because we were having problems with our WiFi.

If I had to describe my experiences in India with two words, I would say: anything goes.
