Airports bring out what people are truly made of. Our trip to Ireland started off on time and smoothly. On our way to our first layover in Atlanta we went through a bad storm resulting in us getting hit or being damaged by a near by strike of lightning. It turned out to be too dangerous to land on that storm so the airport moved us to Montgomery. At that airport I was able to see people be frustrated and express their frustration to the airport staff, who were doing their best to get us quickly back on schedule. Although the frustrated people were not the only ones there, in this airport there were many passengers who knew that it was no ones fault that plans have been altered and expressed appreciation to the stressed staff.
We eventually started back on our journey in two charter buses because that was the most efficient way due to the need of maintenance on our plane. After a 3 hour bus ride to our airport our professor worked so hard on getting us a good flight for the next day. We received good news that he was able to get a flight with us all together as well as hotel vouchers for that night. Well guess what, once we got to the hotel they told us that the airport had over booked us! There was no room at the hotel!
I was surprised and confused but through it all it was so great to see everyone still smiling and not becoming frustrated. We were shuttled back to the airport to be re-booked at a different hotel. Finally we were given our hotel vouchers and a breakfast voucher for our inconvenience! This whole trip was only the first day. Another lesson to keep smiling and loving people around you regardless of the circumstances and inconveniences.
I was able to not only learn to trust my professors that were traveling with more but I also knew that my God is sovereign and His higher plans don’t always match up with our short sighted plans. The journey continues today and we will eventually get to Ireland.
