Top Three Travel Tips for Summer #TravelTipsTuesday #HogsAbroad

As classes end and summer vacation sits on the horizon, I wanted to give some of my fellow Hogs a few tips for vacationing over the summer.

Plan activities ahead of time, while also planning to explore!

Before going somewhere do some research so you can have some events on the itinerary to check off your list, that way you can get the best out of your location and your desired experience. Of course, you never know where the day may lead you when in a new and exciting place, so always keep things flexible enough to be cavaliers. Look at google as your first source, I usually type in “things to do in_____” and it’ll give a wide range of commercial and popular options that your location offers.

Make yourself a list of things that sound cool, look for coupons or tickets that are lower in price if purchased online or ahead of time. Then while traveling be sure to ask locals what are some cool things they usually do in the area. You’d be surprised by the hidden gems that the internet isn’t privy to!

Food!

I am someone who always structures her vacations according to the local cuisine. I like to leave A LOT of room in my budget for a random food truck we may come across or a street market we spend a little too much time in. My friends and I when traveling always opt to go cheap on breakfast, go half on multiple lunches and snacks throughout the day and go big on dinner.

So before traveling we make sure to buy some instant oatmeal for us to eat while on our trip. A box of 12 packets of instant oatmeal is never more than $3 and it’ll keep you full and energized for a day of traveling.

Most hotel rooms have a microwave and they give you disposable thermal cups for coffee that are perfect for cooking oatmeal quickly before leaving the room. Then for lunch and snacking throughout the day split everything in half with the people you’re traveling with! That way you can try more things for less money and still have space for more.

Lastly, for dinner this is your chance to splurge and go somewhere nice. Since you’ve been saving money throughout the day you deserve it!

Wherever you go this summer be safe and have fun!

Don’t be afraid to try new things and always live in the moment. Hopefully these tips help and our team here at the Study Abroad Office can’t wait to hear all about your summer adventures!
