The adventure begins soon!
My semester of Study Abroad will soon commence as next week I say goodbye to the states for four months in order to live and learn in Rome, Italy. Needless to say, I’m pretty excited and just a tiny bit nervous about this new journey in my life.
The reason for my travel is, first of all, because it is required by my degree program. Don’t get me wrong though, I think it’s a fantastic thing! The five-year bachelor’s of architecture degree at the University of Arkansas requires a semester abroad, and I’m so grateful to the architecture program, the honors college, and various other supporters who have helped to make this not only possible but as stress-free as possible.
Beyond the requirement of study abroad, Europe has an incredible history of architecture, and places like Rome will allow me to really see and experience centuries of built environment just by walking down the street. Furthermore, I will be beginning work on my honors thesis, using theories and practices of the New Stagecraft Movement in theatre to inform contemporary urban public space design.
Currently I’m in the midst of packing for the semester (or at least attempting to). I’m thankful for websites such as Her Campus which provide packing lists and tips for study abroad semesters. Pinterest is also incredibly useful.
Well, that’s all the information I have for today. Keep updated over the next few months as I continue posting on here about my travels. Ciao!
