What's Up This Week? #HogsAbroad #IEW2016


This coming week is International Education Week! International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Here's what is going on our campus:

Monday: November 14th

  • Cultural Pop-up, Korean style! 9:30am - 11:00am, Holcombe Hall front entrance
    Come to the Holcombe Hall front entrance and get your picture taken in front of our Korean cultural pop-up. Sponsor: Holcombe Futrall Housing Staff, Morgan Clarke, Maclarke@uark.edu

  • Opening session and International Bazaar, 11:00am – 2:00pm, International Connection Lounge in the Arkansas Union.
    Kim Needy, Dean of Graduate School and International Education will open the University of Arkansas' International Education Week followed by a group picture of the University of Arkansas community in traditional dress. International Bazaar will contribute to inclusion and diversity on campus though cultural table presentations and performances by international students.   • Study Abroad Photo Contest Display, 11:00am – 2:00pm, International Connections Lounge.

Tuesday: November 15th

  • Cultural Pop Up Peru – Selfie with a Llama, 9:00am - 10:00am, Shollmier Plaza (between Walton, JBHT, and WJWH)

  • Cultural Pop Up - Photo with the Russian Matryashka Doll, 12:00noon - 1:00pm, Union Mall

  • Fulbright Friendsgiving Forum, 5:30pm-7:30pm, Reynolds Center Auditorium.
    Fulbright Scholars at the University of Arkansas (FSUA) invites all University of Arkansas students to attend "Fulbright Friendsgiving Forum" where there will be a panel discussion with distinguished speakers (Hoyt Purvis, Curt Rom, Samantha Haycock, and Missy Maramara), cultural performances (FSUA skit, ICT band) and UA Fulbrighters' 'telling our story' video.     This is an annual event in which students will showcase their home cultures in fun, diverse ways. Cultures from all around the world will be showcased by traditional dances and authentic food.   • Global Food Opportunities - Reducing Food Loss After Harvest: Key to a Sustainable Future, 1:00pm - 2:15pm Poultry Science 133
    Dr. Beth Mitcham is a postharvest physiologist faculty member for the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences and has helped train professionals from more than 40 countries as one of the leaders of the Postharvest Technology Center. In 2015, the American Society for Horticultural Sciences selected Dr. Mitcham as its Outstanding International Horticulturist. In 2016, Dr. Mitcham was elected Vice-President of the International Division of the American Society for Horticultural Sciences, beginning her term in 2017.  Student speakers, Kelsey Johnson and Kylee Sigmon, will join Dr. Mitcham on stage and conduct short presentations about their recent international experiences.  Sponsor: Bumpers College International Programs Office and the Department of Horticulture.   • Afternoon PositiviTEA: Culture in a Cup, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, Holcombe Hall living room
    You Ought to Live Optimistically, along with the International Culture Team, are putting the warmth back into November by hosting our 4th annual Afternoon Positivitea event.  We love instilling warmth in people, and what better way to do it than sipping on hot tea while having awesome conversation and meeting awesome people? (Too many 'awesomes'? Impossible!). Come enjoy an amazing mug of Japanese Matcha tea, Moroccan mint tea, Russian floral tea, Persian Borage tea, Bolivian Cedron tea and many more with us!  This event is super people-friendly and planet-friendly. So if you want to make our planet happy, bring our own mugs and save a disposable cup!
