Remembering Croatia #HogsAbroad

One of my favorite memories of my study abroad was the weekend trip my new friends and I made to Croatia. We all decided we really wanted to go to a beach and that Croatia was a unique location.

I was so proud of myself for booking my own flight and air bnb with my friends without any of my parents help. I thought it was so neat that I planned my own vacation to a completely different country.

My friends and I decided on going to Split, Croatia which turned out to be a great vacation spot. Split was actually the site of an old Roman settlement, so there were some really neat old ruins and building that we explored when we weren’t at the beach. It reminded me of what I thought Italy would be like without all the tourists. The people there were also very friendly, and we loved buying things from vendors on the street.

I really liked that Croatia isn’t the typical European vacation spot, so I felt like I had an experience that was really special to me and not similar to anyone else’s.

I really felt like going to Croatia gave me something more out of my study abroad experience.

I became more independent, because I struck out on my own with people I had only met a few weeks ago and still had an amazing time. I also think that Croatia was a place that I might never get to go to again and I’m glad I got to have this experience there that I will remember forever.
