Hobbits, Kiwis and the Great Outdoors #HogsAbroad in New Zealand

My name is Mark Cox, and I studied at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand with ISA.  Studying in what is known as “The Land of the Long White Cloud” was quite the adventure.  In fact, after only two days of being there, I was able to fulfill a big dream of mine by touring the Hobbit movie set, but Hobbiton was only the beginning of my journeys.

When I got to the school, I was amazed at the strong community that Otago had to offer. I got to live with two Americans, one Icelander, and one Kiwi (person from New Zealand).  This diverse little bunch became some of my closest friends over the semester.  Nearly every weekend, it seemed like we were taking off on another trip.  Many times it was hiking; other times, kayaking; or maybe it was simply to explore what the city had to offer.

Aside from my personal travels, ISA had several weekend excursions that allowed me to see the South Island.  All of which were totally worth my time.  On top of that, the program directors that were on these excursions with us happened to be some of the coolest people I met all semester.  They were always there to help whenever I was lost, confused, sick or even hungry.

If you’re looking for a program that provides adventures in the outdoors as well as a cross-cultural experience, look no further than ISA Dunedin.  You won’t regret it!
