Packing for Study Abroad: Information Sessions

The semester will be over before we know it, and your next destination is an international study abroad program- congratulations!
Have you started to think about what your time will be like abroad? How you will handle different situations and prepare to make the most of your experience?
We’ve compiled a list of topics students wished they’d researched before going abroad and have planned some presentations & discussions to help you ‘pack’ for study abroad!

Please Note: The meetings listed below DO NOT REPLACE Mandatory Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation for all Students. These sessions are intended to supplement your knowledge and help you prepare for your study abroad program!

Packing your Cultural Sensitivity- Wednesday, April 6, 11:50-12:40, Memorial Hall Room 242
Presented by Chelsea Kindred, API
Exploring cultural differences can be the most challenging- and most rewarding- part of study abroad.  We’ll discuss strategies for exploring culture and adjusting your ideas/behaviors to be sensitive to your new surroundings!

Packing your Bags-  Tuesday, April 19, 6:30 PM, Lewis & Clark Outfitters, Springdale AR
Jamie Nix and Mikenna Marin, ISA Global Ambassadors
Jamie and Mikenna will offer practical tips for what to pack and how to pack. They’ve promised tips for girls AND guys to maximize your packing plan to prepare for an academic term on-the-go!

Packing for Independent Travel, Colleen Boardman, API Global Ambassador
Friday, April 22, 1:00-2:30, Old Main 417
Colleen will discuss tips for independent travelers and students planning to explore Europe on weekends and breaks during their study abroad programs.

Packing your Family Values: Homestay Do’s and Don’ts- Wednesday, April 27, 4:00-5:00 PM, Old Main 329
 Kelly Wilkinson, CEA
How can you make use of your homestay for language learning and cultural experiences.  Kelly will offer tips on approaching your homestay as more than a place to live, and discuss strategies when life at ‘home’ gets challenging.
