Today we started out with a little trip to a beach town outside of Rome
called Santa Marinella and spent some time soaking up some sun. Though,
we did miss the original train we were going for, but hey, we’re on
Roman time, so who cares? We came back, grabbed some food at a little
bakery, which I am proud to say I ordered for myself in Italian and then
freshened up back at the hotel so we could meet up with Patrick’s
friend who lives in Rome and her sister.
We went to a self serve gelato place (basically like a frozen yogurt place at home, but far better because it’s gelato and not yogurt) in Campo de Fiori, which was just a lovely little town center. After we parted ways once we had our gelato and visited, we headed to the Vatican and I saw a BEAUTIFUL first view of it. The sky was absolutely perfect and picturesque and made it that much better than it already was for a first glimpse of it.
After the Vatican we headed towards Patrick’s old campus when he was a student here two years ago and then got dinner on the way back. It was a very eventful day, which means I will hopefully sleep soundly, or at least better than yesterday night. Parts of today were a little rocky, and some tears were shed over homesickness, but hopefully it’ll look up from here. I found Pantene shampoo earlier today, which is the same stuff I use at home, so maybe that was a good sign. Probably not, but it did make me really excited, which is probably really pathetic, but if you go away from home, familiarity is a beautiful thing. Also, people drive like crazy people here. I’ll touch more on that later. At this point I’m really just babbling because I’m tired and it’s pretty late here. I should probably just add pictures to this and call it a night. Until tomorrow friends, good night!
