Class at San Clemente: Day 11 #HogsAbroad in Rome

Hi all! I’m posting a lot earlier than normal today because tonight I’ll be on a train to Venice and I’m not sure how well the wifi is going to work once I get there! I’m hoping it’ll be okay, but if it’s not and you don’t hear from me until Sunday, you now know why and have no reason to worry!

Really quick, before I start talking about today, my mom commented on my last post asking which movie I decided to watch last night and the answer to that question is il Padrino. The Godfather was my movie of choice last night and to be honest, I don’t think I could have felt more Italian unless I was eating cannoli while watching it.

Anyway though, this morning for class we started out in the classroom to get some notes and then for the second half of class went “on site” to San Clemente. San Clemente is a church just down the way from the Colosseum that while it looks like it’s just a normal church, it actually has a whole underground church right below it, along with little rooms that were apparently used as homes, which we got to tour. It was very cool (in both senses of the word; interesting and chilly) but no pictures were allowed unfortunately, so I have none to share.

After that rather than heading straight back to my apartment I stopped at the main train station which wasn’t too far from San Clemente and bought my ticket to go to Venice for tonight. I’m very excited to see Venice, but the company I’m going with should be interesting since I don’t really know anyone too well. I’m crossing my fingers for a good experience though. Once I got my ticket I came back to my apartment, had lunch and had a little homesick/crying breakdown because I miss having friends or company I enjoy and then tried to move on from that by packing and now I’m just kind of relaxing until about 5 because that’s when I’ll be leaving to take part in a wine tasting through my school. And then right from the wine tasting I’ll head to the train station and leave for Venice! I’m hoping for wifi when I get there so I can post a little update about the trip there and so on, but we’ll see. So there’s a possibility you’ll hear from me either again tonight or tomorrow, but if not then I’ll post again Sunday when I return! Sorry for the lame post today, but I just wanted to keep anyone updated that wanted to be! Until tonight, tomorrow or Sunday(?)–arrivederci!
