Meet One of Our Study Abroad Peer Advisors!

My name is Katie DiSabato and I am a junior Journalism major here at the University of Arkansas. I had the privilege of studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain the summer after my sophomore year. After a lot of research, I decided to choose an external program called ISA to go abroad with. This allowed me to meet other American students from all over the nation, and stay with a host family, which was by far the best part of my experience!

The host family was by far the best part!

Staying with a native of Spain made the experience richer, as I was completely immersed in the life of the European country and forced to speak the language! I was able to put into perspective how privileged so many Americans are, and how much we take for granted. I began to thrive in the Spanish culture and ideas of living every day to its fullest, and simply enjoying life. The biggest benefit from my experience abroad was the new outlook on life I acquired. I realized that there is so much in the world to be explored, and I have only scratched the surface.

Now, I have to live with the permanent travel bug, which is temporarily satisfied by my position as an ISA Global Ambassador. I promote study abroad on campus, which is the best job ever! My work with both the U of A study abroad office and International Studies Abroad external program helps promote the idea of studying abroad to the overwhelmingly large number of students on campus who need a push toward their experience of a lifetime.

I am glad to have the opportunity to openly share my stories and study abroad knowledge with any and every Arkansas student! Studying abroad=the best thing I’ve done in my 20 years. I am so excited that I can now say that this has been my best experience in life without hesitation!
