The problem though needed to be worked on right away so the university shipped in a ton of lamps and lanterns, and gave us lamps for our bedrooms and lanterns for the bathrooms and showers.
They also didn’t want anyone cooking at night, so they gave us all £6 vouchers. They gave us enough to total £84 each!
Not only that, but to apologize for the inconvenience they decided to take off two weeks worth of our accommodation fees!
By the time Tom, Colin, and I had arrived back though we’d been aware of the news for a few days and there were clearly lights on in the Towers. I figured out that the lights from the rooms were different than normal, but saw nothing wrong with the kitchens.
Turns out they fixed the kitchens pretty fast, so I bet they’re regretting those vouchers. We went the past week using the lanterns in the restrooms and showers, when they fixed our floors. However, the maintenance to our rooms would be too disruptive and costly during term time, so they have provided us with standing lamps along with an extension cord, and the original small ones. These are much better, and provide just as much if not more light than the rooms original light. All in all this was more good news than bad news for us. Though it was difficult to set up the first night since it was late, and I only had 1% on my phone so a flashlight was out of the options.
