My 2 week orientation has started and I’m so beyond excited, and
tired, and sick, but still so pumped. We sat through about 5 hours of
straight meetings the first day and yes I did fall asleep a few times
but hey you can’t blame me! This first week was filled with meetings and
me battling UPS to get my bag. Paid an extra $200 in customs charges to
get my own clothes-_- but in this week I’ve met my Swedish buddy Ida,
put my room together, got the wonderful green JIBS overalls, and learned
so much about the school I’m about to start at and I couldn’t be more
excited. The weekend was spent with multiple trips to Ikea and
recovering on sleep. Oh and realizing how cold this place actually is.
I don’t know why I was surprised by this temperature

This picture sums up the first week way too well
Week one is done. I survived my class and my first nights out at the
student night club Akademine (Aka). Currently I’m studying International
Trade Theory and Sweden in the Global Economy. I’ve started every
morning off right with my very Swedish breakfast (as pictured above)and so much coffee. That’s the only way I can make it
through my 3 hour theory lecture… I’ve been so excited to get started
with my classes. I’m taking majority of he international credits I need
for my international business degree here.
The rules of the sittning

the green pants are a must here (night of the Sittning)
New friends at Aka
The first week, there was an event every night at Aka. The biggest
was definitely the full moon party and it was so fun getting to paint
every one. The final night of kick off was the “sittning”. The Sittning
is a big dinner hosted by Sexkration, the people who run our
orientation, where all of the new students go to a dinner and they put
on a performance for us. That night at Aka was epic.
Aka is a two story
student night club with 4 different room and 4 bars. Each room plays a
different type of music, so I get to show off my awkward white girl
dance moves with all different styles of music. Sitting up stairs on the
couches is where I have met the most people, but Hayley and I really
love dancing the night away, even though we can’t dance at all.
When
leaving Aka, there is a hot-dog stand with the best hot-dog in the world
so of course we can’t resist that temptation. Then we walk 5 minutes to
the bus station and at that point we have finished our hot-dogs and ready
for number 2, and conveniently enough there sits another hot-dog stand
right at the bus station. Hot-dogs are an absolute must after Aka.
I have met so many more international students this week and Swedes in
my classes and Jönköping is quickly feeling more and more like home.
I’m still so amazed I get to study here and I’m beyond thankful I get
this experience. I can’t wait to see what the rest of this semester has
in store for me!
