Happy Throwback Thursday! Here's a post from spring 2015 about starting a new semester on exchange in England....
Hello all,
I
have been in England for just under a month. Everything has exceeded my
expectations. The campus is very beautiful and you can tell that is was
built in the 60s. Today I went to the weekly market on campus and got
fresh vegetables and sausages.
Classes are very different here. I attend
each of my four class once a week for two hours instead of three times a
week. As a result, I only have classes Monday-Wednesday. I am taking
advantage of this this week and leaving to go to London for two days
tomorrow. Last weekend I took a train to the historic campus of
Cambridge University. The campus is beautiful and the buildings are
truly works of art. I have also just booked a trip in mid-February to
Scotland the day after my entry exam for graduate school.
I have met so many people from so many places! Just on my dorm floor
there is at least one person from Spain, Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan,
Singapore and Estonia. The university is 40 percent international. I
share a kitchen with 12 other people. This not really a problem because
of the different dinner times from our respective home countries.
From
what I researched I thought the town would be very quiet and not have
much of a night life, but I was very wrong. Many people flock to
Colchester for its night life. The shopping is also good. Today I am
going to take a bus into town to buy a travel journal and a book for
class. It is around 3:30 pm here now and is already starting to get
dark! I will make sure to post on Monday to tell you about London.
Cheers,
