What a season it has been for those Arkansas Razorbacks. At first what didn’t look like a very promising season turned into a series of nailbiting overtimes, creative plays and sweet victory.
I miss American football. Going to games bundled in a million layers, kickin it on the couch watching it on TV with dad and just being wrapped in the comforting feeling of fall. And along with the actual game itself, I miss the community. Everyone cheering, booing, screaming, all rallying together for a common goal.
While I’m not sitting on the sidelines this year I’ve still managed to start my own football routine. Sunday morning is prime time college football in SE Asia. Whether I’m at my apartment, hotel, or friends house I’ve managed to watch at least part of every game this season.
In Koh Phi Phi the Auburn game kept me up til 3am as I sat by reception talking to myself with my headphones in. My new Swedish friends thought I was hilarious and probably insane but didn’t want to join me to watch an Arkansas victory in 4 overtimes! Check out the highlights here.
And that Ole Miss game. I don’t even know where to begin with this one. If you haven’t seen the lateral pass and two point conversion click here NOW! But you should actually just watch the whole highlight reel here because it’s impossible to describe the craziness that is this game. Thank you Brandon for going for 2, thank you Marquis Haynes for the foul, and Brandon again for rushing it in for the TD! Arkansas 53-Ole Miss 52 final!!
Every week I would cheer silently as my friends slept and I gave a play by play at breakfast whether it was asked for or not. Watching familiar faces and hearing an event in a language I understand has brought such comfort into my weekly routine.
Needless to say I will be watching my favorite out of conference rivalry, K-State and Arkansas, battle it out at the Liberty Bowl (I was almost a Wildcat after all). Praying for another W, just like the 2012 Cotton Bowl.
Woo pig sooie!
