Schooling and Strawberries: A #HogsAbroad Student in Rome

Kaitlyn is blogging while in Rome, Italy for the fall 2015 semester.  Her blog can be found at https://razorbackinrome.wordpress.com/. Here's a recent excerpt from her experience so far:

The first week of school has flown by; maybe it’s the no-class-on-friday thing or maybe it’s that I still feel like I’m on vacation here. Despite my being crazy and studying abroad my last semester of college, I’m liking all of my classes so far; the Rome Sketchbook class definitely is my favorite. Every week we meet in different places around the city and draw for 3 hours and this Wednesday we are going to Piazza San Pietro (St. Peters Square) for our first drawing lessons. I’m so happy I saved an elective so I could do this here…and so happy that the grading isn’t based on skill level.

With school starting and getting textbooks, switching schedules, and planning trips I haven’t had as much time to explore as last week. One of my favorite parts of this week I think was visiting Campo de Fiori on a Saturday on my way to the bookstore. From the pictures below you can see how beautiful the markets were with fresh fruit and veggies everywhere along with flowers, spices, pasta, wine, kitchen accessories, and the usual tables selling jewelry. We bought some fresh strawberries to take as we walked to the bookstore and I learned that if you ask italians directions while holding strawberries they will request one as payment haha. We also climbed to the top of Gianicolo Hill and saw the whole city!! See pics on the blog: https://razorbackinrome.wordpress.com/2015/01/26/week-2/.
