Hello!
My name is Caitlin Howle, I'm a Senior, Departmental Honors student at the University of Arkansas working on my undergraduate degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing.
On a whim last semester, I decided to head to the study abroad fair to find out if it was at all possible for me to go on a trip, or even afford it. I got information on a few programs, but one just kept popping out to me. I applied, and two days later found out that I was accepted into the Theatre in London program, sponsored by the University. The Theatre in London program is dedicated to seeing cultural events in London, and attending up to twelve plays while there. It's about studying the genre of drama, learning from it, taking from it, and really sinking your teeth into it. As for theatre part of theatre in London. We'll be seeing twelve plays while there, and they are:
To prepare so far, I've been to a few pre-departure meetings. I've been nervous about the trip, and these meetings have really helped. We've discussed what we're going to do while abroad, what plays we'll be seeing, as well as where we'll be living and a lot of small, common sense things. (Never put your wallet in your back pocket!) I've also been making list upon list of what I'm going to be packing and trying to get any last-minute items I hadn't thought of.
One thing I'm dreading is that I'm going to be experiencing my first overnight flight. We are leaving from the XNA airport in the morning (on the 24th of May), flying to Detroit, and then getting on an eight to nine hour flight going over the ocean. We land the next morning (the 25th) at 7:30 in the morning. Eeep! First, this isn't good because I'm not a morning person, second, wow that's a lot of travel! I'm sure I'm going to be exhausted and as soon as I get there it's go-go-go-go to get adjusted to where I am, buy groceries, and try to learn how to use the metro.
Other then that, how do I feel? Right now, it hasn't really hit me that I'm going! I'm starting to get very excited when I do sit and think about it. I just can't wait to see what adventures lay in store for me while over there. It's going to be a great summer.
